of the European Astronomical Society and the European Physical Society
PREAMBLE
As a successor of the Joint Astrophysics Division, the European Astronomical Society (EAS) and the European Physical Society (EPS) wish to create a Joint Solar Physics Group (JSPG) of the EAS and the EPS. The EAS and EPS may wish to create other such joint groups in the future.
1. Purpose
The Joint Solar Physics Group deals particularly with those topics in solar physics that benefit from a close collaboration between physicists and astronomers. The EAS and EPS will use this Joint Group to coordinate harmoniously their relevant activities in solar physics. Among the immediate goals of this Joint Group are joint meetings, the organization of summer schools for students, and joint public outreach.
2. Participation
Member of the Joint Group can be either a member of EAS or of EPS or a member of both these Societies. Group membership is defined according to the respective Constitutions of the two Societies. The schedules for membership fees of either Society apply and the relevant fee is payable to the respective Society.
Periodic calls for membership of the Joint Group will be published in the EAS Newsletter and in EPS journal Europhysics News.
3. The Board of the Joint Group
The Board of the Joint Group will be elected from members of the Joint Group according to the procedures of EPS and shall be regulated by the EPS Constitution and Bylaws.
4. Representation of the Joint Group in EAS and EPS
The representative of the Joint Group in the governing bodies of the two Societies shall be regulated by the respective Constitutions and By-laws.
5. Duration
The Agreement shall come into force on signing by both EAS and EPS. It may be terminated by either Society on twelve months notice in writing to the other Society, or sooner if both Societies agree.
Amendments to this Agreement can be made at any time, provided that the Councils of both Societies (or their appointed agents) approve the changes.
