European Physical Society Distinctions

The EPS promotes scientific excellence. The recognition of outstanding achievements in research, education and service to the EPS is an essential activity as a learned society. Such distinctions demonstrate the high regard of the physics community for the contributions by individual physicists.

Prizes announcements

EPS EDISON VOLTA PRIZE

The European Physical Society has established the "EPS Edison Volta Prize" in 2011 to promote excellent research and achievement in physics.

EPS GERO THOMAS MEDAL

The Commemorative Medal,created in 2000 to honour the memory of G. Thomas, is awarded to individuals for their outstanding service to the Society.

EPS EMMY NOETHER DISTINCTION

This distinction will be awarded to highlight noteworthy women physicists and to identify role models that will help to attract women to a career in physics.

EPS EARLY CAREER PRIZES

The EPS has two Early Career prizes to be awarded each year – one each for achievements of a mainly theoretical or experimental nature.

EPS HISTORIC SITES

The EPS Historic Sites Award commemorates places in Europe important for the development and the history of physics.

DIVISIONS & GROUPS PRIZES

The groups and divisions of the EPS award many of prestigious prizes honouring contributions for the advancement in physics research, education and outreach.

EPS HONORARY MEMBERS

In recognition of extraordinary contributions to the EPS and physics, the EPS awards Honorary Membership to truly outstanding individuals.

EPS FELLOWS

In recognition of the outstanding individual's contribution to physics, Fellows of the EPS are elected by the European physics community.

EPS ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The award is given annually by the Society for excellent contributions to the promotion and development of: EPS Divisions or their Sections; EPS Groups; EPS Committees.
