EPS statement on Prof. M. Ferrari's resignation

Mulhouse, 14 April 2020 - The European Physical Society (EPS), as a member of the Initiative for Science in Europe platform (ISE), endorses the ISE statement in relation with the resignation of Prof. Mauro Ferrari as president of the European Research Council. The EPS fully agrees that a move towards a more top-down funding approach would jeopardize the mission and the spirit of the European Research Council. The grants awarded by the European Research Council are vital to progress in fundamental research in Europe, also because of the respect for the investigators’ freedom to choose what projects they wish to submit for funding.
