EPS Accelerator Group Prizes

The Rolf Wideroe Prize for outstanding work in the accelerator field with no age limit.

The Gersh Budker Prize for a recent, significant contribution to the accelerator field with no age limit.

Best student posters awarded to 2 students whose work, presented in the special session for students is particularly meritorious.

The Frank Sacherer Prize for an individual in the early part of his or her career, having made a recent significant, original contribution to the accelerator field.

A prize, awarded to a student registered for a PhD or diploma in accelerator physics or engineering or to a trainee accelerator physicist or engineer in the educational phase of their professional career, for the quality of work and promise for the future. Starting from IPAC'17 this prize will be dedicated to the memory of Bruno Touschek.

EPS Condensed Matter Division Prizes

The EPS Europhysics Prize for outstanding achievement in condensed matter physics is awarded every 2 years for a recent work by one or more individuals in the area of physics of condensed matter, specifically work leading to advances in the fields of electronic, electrical and materials engineering which, in the opinion of the Society's selection committee, represents scientific excellence.

The EPS CMD Liquid Matter Prize is awarded for outstanding contributions to the science of liquid matter.

EPS Plasma Physics Division Prizes

EPS-PPD Hannes Alfvén Prize for Outstanding Contributions to Plasma Physics, established in 2000, is awarded each year at the EPS Conference on Plasma Physics.

EPS-PPD PhD Research Award recognises exceptional quality of work carried out by young physicists as part of their PhD research in any area of plasma physics. The prize was established in 2005. A maximal of three prizes are awarded.

EPS-PPD Innovation Prize targets research which has demonstrably led to robust innovative applications or important effects on society. Nominations in any field are encouraged.

EPS High Energy Particle Physics Division Prizes

The High Energy and Particle Physics Prize, for an outstanding contribution to High Energy Physics in an experimental, theoretical or technological area, will be awarded to one or more persons or to collaboration(s).

The Giuseppe and Vanna Cocconi Prize, for an outstanding contribution to Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology in the last fifteen years, in an experimental, theoretical or technological area, will be awarded to one or more individuals or to one or more collaborations.

The Young Experimental Physicist Prize, for outstanding work by one or more early career experimental physicist (maximum of 8 years - excluding career interruptions - of research experience following the PhD) in the field of Particle Physics and/or Particle Astrophysics.

The Gribov Medal, for outstanding work by an early career researcher (maximum of 8 years - excluding career interruptions - of research experience following the PhD) in Theoretical Particle Physics and/or Field Theory.

The Outreach Prize, for outstanding achievement in outreach, including education and the promotion of diversity, in connection with High Energy Physics and/or Particle Astrophysics.

EPS Nuclear Physics Division Prizes

The Lise Meitner Prize is awarded every 2 years to one or several individuals for outstanding work in the fields of experimental, theoretical or applied nuclear science.

The IBA Europhysics Prize for Applied Nuclear Science and Nuclear Methods in Medicine is awarded every 2 years to one or more individuals for outstanding work in the field of nuclear science and medicine. The work must have been published in a peer reviewed journal.

The Dissertation Award in Nuclear Physics is awarded by the Nuclear Physics Board - on behalf of the Nuclear Physics Division of the European Physical Society. The award recognises the excellency of a recent Ph. D. in Nuclear Physics. The prize is given every 3 years to 3 candidates.

EPS Quantum Electronics and Optics Division Prizes

The EPS Quantum Electronics and Optics Prize - Fundamental aspects is awarded to one or more persons for outstanding contributions to quantum electronics and optics.

The EPS Quantum Electronics and Optics Prize - Applied aspects is awarded to one or more persons for outstanding contributions to quantum electronics and optics.

The EPS Fresnel Prize - Fundamental aspects awarded to one or more persons for their outstanding contributions to quantum electronics and optics in basic physics or applied sciences, for works published before the age of 35.

The EPS Fresnel Prize - Applied aspects awarded to one or more persons for their outstanding contributions to quantum electronics and optics in basic physics or applied sciences, for works published before the age of 35.

The EPS QEOD Thesis Prizes are awarded for the best nominated PhD theses in the area of quantum electronics and optics submitted in the two years prior to the CLEO/Europe-EQEC meeting. Two prizes will be awarded for fundamental and two for applied aspects.

EPS Prize for Research in Laser Science and Applications is awarded on behalf of the European Physical Society through its Quantum Electronics & Optics Division (QEOD). The prize is awarded every 2 years in recognition of recent work by one or more individuals (no more than three) for scientific excellence in the area of laser science and applications in its broadest sense.

The EPS Prize for Research into the Science of Light is awarded on behalf of the European Physical Society through its Quantum Electronics & Optics Division (QEOD). The prize is awarded every 2 years in recognition of recent work by one or more individuals (no more than three) for scientific excellence in the area of electromagnetic science in its broadest sense, across the entire spectrum of electromagnetic waves.

EPS QEOD & AMOPD Prize 

Vladilen Letokhov Medal *

Established in memory of Vladilen Letokhov (1939-2009), former Vice-Director of the Institute of Spectroscopy of the Russian Academy of Sciences and pioneer in several fields of laser physics, the Letokhov Medal aims at recognising outstanding contributions in laser-matter interaction, in particular spectroscopy of atoms and molecules, laser manipulation of atoms, and strong field processes.

The prize consists of a medal, a certificate and a monetary award of 5000 euros.

The medal will be presented every odd year at a major conference alternatively sponsored by the Quantum Electronics and Optics Division and the Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics Division of the EPS.

EPS AMOPD Prize

EPS AMOPD Young Scientist Prize

The Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics Division (AMOPD) of the European Physical Society (EPS) awards a Young Scientist Prize (YSP) triannually at its main division event, the European Conference on Atomic and Molecular Physics (ECAMP). The prize consists of a medal, a cheque in the amount of EUR 1,500, an invited talk at the edition of ECAMP the prize is awarded, and an invitation to write a „colloquium“ article for EPJD.

EPS SNPD Prizes

EPS Statistical and Nonlinear Physics Prize

The EPS Statistical and Nonlinear Physics Prize is awarded by EPS for outstanding research contributions in the area of statistical physics, nonlinear physics, complex systems and complex networks. The prize winner will have made ground-breaking and agenda setting contributions for the development of this field. The prize can be shared by up to 2 persons. The prize consists of a glass trophy and a cash sum. Prize winners can have any nationality.

EPS-SNPD Early Career Prize

This prize will be awarded to an early career scientist (defined as having obtained his/her PhD less than 6 years ago at the time of nomination) who has made outstanding research contributions to an area of statistical physics, nonlinear physics, complex systems, or complex networks, as evidenced by a top quality and highly cited paper in an international journal. The prize can be shared by up to 2 persons.  The prize consists of a glass trophy and a cash sum. Prize winners can have any nationality.
