The 89th meeting of the EPS-NPD board took place at the Physics and Astronomy Department E. Majorana (PADEM) - INFN section of Catania and Laboratori Nazionali del Sud (LNS), on the 8-9th May 2025.
On the morning of the 8th, detailed presentations were given about the PADEM activities in particle physics, astroparticle physics, nuclear and hadron physics, theoretical physics and applications.
On the afternoon of the 8th, the proposals to host the 2026 conference on Nuclear Physics in Astrophyics were presented by the applicants and discussed by the board, who selected the application of ELI-NP, IFIN-HH and Babeş – Bolyai University to host ANPC 2026 in Cluj Napoca, Romania.
The meeting continued with updates on the status of the organisation of EUNPC 2025 and the opening of the call to host EUNPC 2027, on the editorial activities and inpact factors of the European Physical Journal and on EPS meetings and activities and in particular on the recent deployment of the new EPS web site.
On the morning of the 9th, the activities of LNS were presented with a particular focus on the status of the upgrade of the accelerator facility, which started in 2020.
A talk was also given on the activities of the Italian Physical Society and its relations with EPS and other european physical societies.
The members of the board were then taken on a guided tour of the facility, could see the refurbished 15 MV tandem and the dismantled superconducting cyclotron, which should soon be replaced by a new one, capable of delivering much higher intensities.
The board also visited the proton therapy center and the new visitor center. The board was very impressed by the quality and reality of the exhibits of the visitor center.
The board meeting then ended with discussions on new co-opted members, with special care to keep the balance between areas of expertise, country representation and gender.
