Three student poster prizes have been awarded during
the ESPM-16th conference. The ESPM-16th student poster prizes
were co-sponsored by Solar Physics
Journal (part of Springer Nature).
The awardees are:
- 1st prize: Zihao Yang (Peking University, China) for
his work entitled "Magnetoseismology for the solar corona: from
~10 Gauss to coronal magnetograms"
- 2nd prize: Florian Koller (University of Graz,
Austria) for his work entitled "First results on production of
magnetosheath jets during to SIRs and CMEs"
- 3rd prize: Seray Sahin (Northumbria university, UK)
for her work entitled "Prevalence of thermal non-equilibrium
over an active region"
The ESPD board wish to thank Elena Khomenko and Francesca
Zuccarello for the organization of these prizes, as well as the
student prize judges: Laurène Jouve, Sanja Danilovic, Lakshmi
Pradeep Chitta, Andrew Hillier, Larisa Kashapova, Ioannis
Kontogiannis, Manuela Temmer, Manuel Collados, Brigitte Schmieder
and Marco Stangalini.

The European Solar Physics Division board is delighted to present the 2021 ESPD Prize winners:
PhD Thesis Prize to Dr. Camilla Scolini (PhD carried at Centre for mathematical Plasma Astrophysics, KU Leuven, Belgium):
Prize awarded for significant contributions on numerical modelling and observational analyses of the propagation of coronal mass ejections.
Early Career Researcher Prize to Dr. Daniel Nóbrega-Siverio (working at Rosseland Centre for Solar Physics, Norway, at the time of award):
Prize awarded for important contributions to the understanding of solar chromospheric phenomena and related processes, combining theory, observations and numerical experimentation.

Deadline: February 7th, 2021
Since 2017, the European Solar Physics Division (ESPD) of the European Physical Society (EPS) awards two prizes yearly: the ESPD PhD Thesis Prize, the ESPD Early Career Researcher (Postdoc) Prize. The deadline for nomination is February 7th, 2021.
The 2021 ESPD PhD Thesis Prize will be awarded to a young researcher whose PhD thesis/viva was defended in 2020.
The 2021 ESPD Early Career Prize will be awarded to a young researcher whose PhD was awadered after 01/01/2017 (with possible extension).

The European Solar Physics Division (ESPD) of the European Physical Society is honored to announce that Eric Priest (University of St Andrews, UK) has been awarded the ESPD Senior Prize 2020.
The prize is awarded for:
" long-standing leadership via mentoring, supervising and field-defining textbooks and for fundamental contributions in key topics of solar magnetohydrodynamics, particularly magnetic reconnection in the solar atmosphere and solar coronal heating."
The ESPD board wishes to thank the members of the senior prize selection board for their time and expertise: Luis Bellot Rubio, Manolis Georgoulis, Louise Harra, Åke Nordlund Lidia Van Driel-Gesztelyi.

The European Solar Physics Division board is delighted to present the 2020 ESPD Prize winners:
PhD Thesis Prize to Dr. Stefan Hofmeister (PhD carried at Institute of Physics, University of Graz, Austria) - Prize awarded for outstanding observational analysis of solar coronal holes, their magnetic fine structure and the associated high-speed solar wind streams.
Early Career Researcher Prize to Dr. Victor Réville (currently working at IRAP, France) - Prize awarded for fundamental contributions to creating self-consistent multi-dimensional numerical models of coronal heating and solar wind acceleration via wave turbulence.

The European Solar Physics Division board is delighted to present the 2019 ESPD Prize winners:
PhD Thesis Prize to Dr. Norbert Magyar (PhD carried at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium) for significant contributions, using 3D magneto-hydrodynamics numerical experiments, to the study of waves and their relation to turbulence in the solar corona, in the framework of the PhD thesis.
Early Career Researcher Prize to Dr. Lakshmi Pradeep Chitta (currently at Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research, Germany) for ground breaking observational analysis highlighting the crucial role of small-scale photospheric magnetic fields in the structure and dynamics of the solar corona.

The European Solar Physics Division board is delighted to present the 2018 ESPD Prize winners:
PhD Thesis Prize to Dr. Peter Levens (PhD carried at University of Glasgow, UK) for significant contributions to the study of
tornado-like prominences - using detailed ultraviolet spectroscopic, multi wavelength imaging and visible spectropolarimetric observational analysis - helping to unveil the nature of these structures.
Early Career Researcher Prize to Dr. Tanausú del Pino Alemán (currently at Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, Spain) for ground breaking contributions in the field of theoretical solar spectropolarimetry, developing novel methods and very efficient radiative transfer computer programs for understanding scattering line polarization using realistic atomic and atmospheric models.

In 2018 the ESPD will award two prizes, the PhD Thesis Prize and the Early Career Researcher (Postdoc) Prize. These prizes are based on nomination. The deadline for nomination is May 1st 2018.
The 2018 ESPD PhD Thesis Prize is awarded to a young doctor who defended its thesis in 2017. Information about the nomination package and submission process can be found in the ESPD prizes webpage.
The 2018 ESPD Early Career Prize is awarded to a young researcher who defended its PhD less than 4 years ago (with possible extension). Information about the nomination package and submission process can be found in the ESPD prizes webpage.
