Welcome Page - Computational Physics Group (updated on 20 October 2025).
The Computational Physics Group (CPG) was created in the early phase of EPS life as a forum of discussion on the use of computers in physics, with the aim “… to foster European collaboration in the development of computational methods and tools in the context of the physics research”.
The main activity was a Series European Conferences in Computational Physics, since 1972 to the late eighties, together with the organisation of summer schools. In 1990 the CPG had more than 400 members. The tradition of an annual Conferences on Computational Physics (CCP) was established, at that time, by EPS and the American Physical Society (APS), alternatively in USA and in Europe. Since 1989, these conferences continued, sponsored by the IUPAP with annual periodicity, and the conference sites moved also to other continents.
Last year the 35th IUPAP Conference of Computational Physics was held again in Europe, on 7-12 July 2024, in Thessaloniki (Greece), chaired by Prof. Panos Argyrakis. The successful and rich program, as well the book of abstracts, can be seen on the web page of the conference at https://ccp2024.physics.auth.gr. A picture of participants is given below.
This year the 36th IUPAP Conference of Computational Physics (CCP2025) planned in Knoxville (Tennessee - USA) for August, has been postponed and will be held only in virtual mode on November 3-7, 2025. See the web site of the conference: https://ccp2025.ornl.gov.
