The second China-Europe Solar Physics Meeting will be held in Hvar, Croatia, on 6-10 May 2019.
This is the second meeting between Chinese and European solar physicists in the frame of a regular scientific exchange on a biennial or triennial basis. The first meeting organised in China (CESPM 2017, Kunming, Yunnan) was very successful and the second meeting should further strengthen the collaboration between European and Chinese scientists, in particular among young scientists.
The sessions are organised as follows:
- Solar Interior, Dynamo and the Solar Cycle
- Heating and Coupling of the Solar Atmosphere layers
- Fundamental Plasma Processes: Magnetic Reconnection, Waves, Emission, Particle Acceleration
- Manifestations and Triggering of Solar Flares and Coronal Mass Ejections
- Solar-Terrestrial Relations, Solar Wind, Space Weather and Space Climate.
Abstract submission is now open (deadline 15 January 2019) and early registration will start on January 1st 2019. The meeting is open to colleagues from all countries

The European Solar Physics Division board is delighted to present the 2018 ESPD Prize winners:
PhD Thesis Prize to Dr. Peter Levens (PhD carried at University of Glasgow, UK) for significant contributions to the study of
tornado-like prominences - using detailed ultraviolet spectroscopic, multi wavelength imaging and visible spectropolarimetric observational analysis - helping to unveil the nature of these structures.
Early Career Researcher Prize to Dr. Tanausú del Pino Alemán (currently at Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, Spain) for ground breaking contributions in the field of theoretical solar spectropolarimetry, developing novel methods and very efficient radiative transfer computer programs for understanding scattering line polarization using realistic atomic and atmospheric models.

The EST Science Meeting will be held in Giardini Naxos (Me), Italy, on 11-15 June, 2018.
The European Solar Telescope (EST), is a 4-metre class aperture telescope designed to investigate our active Sun at very high spatial and temporal resolution and unprecedented polarimetric sensitivity. The project is promoted by the European Association for Solar Telescopes (EAST), whose aim is to ensure access of European solar astronomers to world-class high-resolution ground-based observing facilities and keep Europe at the forefront of solar physics.
The EST Science Meeting aims at gathering scientists who wish to present their most recent theoretical and observational research in the field. The meeting will highlight the key science cases that will be addressed by the 4-metre class solar telescopes, and the synergies with both current and future ground-based and space-borne facilities.
A Science Requirements Document, describing how and why the unique capabilities of EST will provide answers to several key science questions, will be presented at the Meeting. EST will be the heritage of the entire solar physics community and, for this reason, it is expected that the scientific community and in particular the EST Science Meeting participants, will contribute with science cases that will then be reflected in the final version of the Science Requirement Document.

The Scientific Committee on Solar-Terrestrial Physics (SCOSTEP) Bureau has established a committee to coordinate the design
of SCOSTEP’s Next Scientific Program (NSP), which will cover the period
from 2019 to 2022. This committee has prepared a document describing
the NSP, which is accessible at:
https://1drv.ms/f/s!Akpx0yeihiGHoRrANb2ZkIa_f-Gm.
The central scientific topic of the NSP is the predictability of the
Sun-Earth system at various time scales.
The NSP committee invites feedback from the scientific community, in the
form of white papers, or short comments, or even verbally to one or more
of the committee members, which are listed with their email addresses in
the NSP document mentioned above. Please send your feedback until July
31, 2018!
To encourage an open and transparent discussion, all white papers will
be made publicly viewable at:
https://1drv.ms/f/s!Akpx0yeihiGHoRtUB6m2wPKVk8cc
In addition, there will be public opportunities to provide input at
discussion sessions to be held at
- the Workshop “Solar Influences on the Magnetosphere, Ionosphere and
Atmosphere” in Primorsko (Bulgaria) on 4-8 June
- the SCOSTEP 14th Quadrennial Solar-Terrestrial Physics Symposium in
Toronto (Canada) on 9-13 July
- the 42nd COSPAR General Assembly in Pasadena, California (USA) on
14-22 July
The NSP committee will use the feedback received to produce a second
draft and issue another call for feedback in autumn. The goal of the
committee is to have a final description of the NSP by the end of
February 2019.

Manuscripts are solicited for Solar Physics Advances from
the Interior to the Heliosphere, a special topical issue of Advances
in Space Research (ASR).
Ongoing research in solar physics continuously advances and deepens our
understanding of basic physical processes operating in the solar
interior, atmosphere and wind, and contributes to uncovering the
solar-terrestrial relations and forecasting space weather. The main
objective of this special issue of Advances in Space Research (ASR)
is to highlight recent findings achieved in different branches of Solar
Physics. We welcome original and high-quality relevant manuscripts from
all scientists in the solar and heliospheric physics communities. All
submissions must be original papers that meet the quality and
peer-review standards of Advances in Space Research.
Topics to be considered include:
- Solar Interior, Dynamo, Large-Scale Flows and the Solar Cycle
- The Solar Atmosphere: Heating, Dynamics and Coupling
- Fundamental Plasma Processes in the Solar Atmosphere: Magnetic
Reconnection, Waves, Emission, Particle Acceleration
- From Radio to Gamma Rays: Near-Sun Manifestations and Triggering of
Solar Flares and Coronal Mass Ejections
- Solar Effects on the Heliosphere
Instructions for submission:
- Go the submission website.
- To ensure that all manuscripts are correctly identified for inclusion
into the special issue you are editing, it is important that authors
select SI: Solar Physics Advances when they reach the “Article Type”
step in the submission process.
- Deadline for manuscript submission: 30 April 2018
.
All manuscripts will be subject to a standard peer-review process,
including at least two independent reviewers. There are no page limits,
but the length of the paper should be appropriate to the scientific
material being presented. Manuscripts will be accepted on a
paper-by-paper basis and available on-line with a DOI a few days after
acceptance. All articles will be typeset at no cost to the author,
while a fee will be charged to the authors for colour figures in print,
but not in the electronic version. Accepted late papers due to
submission delays or protracted refereeing will appear individually in
regular issues of ASR.
On behalf of the Guest Editors Dr. Georgoulis, Dr. Kontar and the ASR.
Co-editor for Special Issues, Dr. Peggy Ann Shea.
