One of the main activities of the Atomic, Molecular and Optical
Physics Division (AMOPD) of the European Physical Society (EPS) is the
organization of the tri-annual ECAMP conference series. The 14th European Conference on Atoms, Molecules and Photons (ECAMP) was held this year, 2022, in Vilnius (Lithuania), from June 27th to July 1st. The conference (https://www.ecamp14.org/)
gathered physicists from all different sub-areas within the AMOPD in
Europe, and presented 9 Plenary speakers, 50 invited talks, 20 progress
reports on hot topics in the field, and more than 300 poster
contributions. We also enjoyed the successful Young Minds Scientists session:
a session organized in full by the EPS Young Minds group within ECAMP.
This session is planned to be part of our European conference for the
future editions.
During the ECAMP conference, we could also enjoy the talk from the recipient of the Young Scientist Prize of the AMOPD-EPS in 2022.
The Young Scientist Prize is tri-annually awarded at ECAMP. The
nominees are young scientists making original and outstanding
contributions to the field of AMO physics. We had several nominations
from 10 different countries, and the recipient of the Young Scientist Prize of the AMOPD-EPS in 2022 has been Jordi Tura (Leiden University), for his pioneering work in Quantum Information Theory, in particular on quantum non-locality in many-body systems.
The General Assembly of the AMOPD-EPS was celebrated during ECAMP, on Wednesday June 29th, where, following the statutes, the AMOPD Board was renewed for the new term, 2022-25. The
new Board acknowledges the valuable contribution from those Board
members who completed their term (Stefanie Gräfe, Marek Pajek, Hélène
Perrin and Anne L’Huilllier, and our previous Chair, Joachim
Burgdörfer). The new AMOPD Board, approved by the General Assembly, for
the 2022-25 term:
Chair: Alicia Palacios (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain)
Vice-chair: Iva Brezinova (Technischen Universität, Wien, Austria)
Elected members: Francesco Cataliotti
Nikolai Kolachevsky
Daniela Rupp
Hugo van der Hart
Co-opted members: Mathieu Gisselbrecht
Saïda Guellati-Khelifa
Till Jahnke
Karolina Slowik
Representatives of AMOPD groups and sections:
Rosario González-Férez (EGAS)
Paola Bolognesi (EPS-EAC)
Frank Stienkemeier (CMPS)
Stefan Schippers (ICPEAC)
Local Chair for ECAMP 2025: Roland Wester (Innsbruck, Austria)
The activities that have been already scheduled under the umbrella of the AMOPD-EPS for this next term are the following:
EGAS 54 will be held in Strasbourg (France) from June 18th to 22nd, 2023, with Prof. Guido Pupillo and Dr. Johannes Schachenmayer, both from the University of Strasbourg, as Local Chairs. This conference (http://egas54.org/)
brings together all European experts on the field (EGAS: European Group
of Atomic Systems), covering fundamental physics, cold gases and
quantum fluids, quantum optics, information and simulation, spectroscopy
and metrology, and a wide range of applications to astrophysics,
plasma, biophysics, etc.
ICPEAC 2023 will be celebrated in Ottawa (Canada), from July 25th to August 1st of 2023,
with Prof. Tom Kirchner and André Staudte as Local Chairs. The
International Conference on Photonic, Electronic and Atomic Collisions,
ICPEAC (https://icpeac2023.ca/), has strong ties with the AMOPD-EPS, and a representative joins the AMOPD Board.
The MOLEC conference, the 24th European Conference on the Dynamics of Molecular systems, will take place in 2024. Location and chairs will be soon announced.
ECAMP 15th, 2025 will be held in Innsbruck (Austria) during the summer of 2025 (dates will be soon fixed, probably within the first two weeks of July). The Local Chair of the conference is Prof. Roland Wester and his team.
