Dear EPS members,
Dear EPS friends,
The EPS Condensed Matter Division Europhysics Prize for Outstanding Achievements in Condensed Matter Physics has been presented annually since 1975 by the European Physical Society, and has become one of the most prestigious awards for condensed matter physics in Europe.
The selection committee is pleased to request nominations for the 2016 EPS Condensed Matter Division Europhysics Prize. The prize laureates will receive a cash award, as well as an invitation to attend and present their work at the 26th Condensed Matter General Conference (CMD 26) that will take place in Groningen, the Netherlands, from September 5th through September 9th, 2016.
The EPS Europhysics Prize is awarded in recognition of recent work by one or more individuals in the area of condensed matter physics, and, more specifically, work leading to advances in the fields of electronic, electrical, and materials engineering that, in the opinion of the Society's selection committee, is of particular scientific excellence and merit. Recent work is defined as work that has been completed within the 5 years prior to the award. The prize may be awarded for either pure or applied research, at the discretion of the Society.
Only complete nominations will be considered. For a nomination to be complete, it must include:
- a complete CV
- a publication list (5 pages maximum)
- an indication of the three most relevant papers to the nomination
- a description of the work justifying the nomination (2 pages maximum)

The HEPP Board of the European Physical Society is soliciting Expressions of Interest (EoI) from potential hosts of the EPS-HEP conference in 2019. These EoIs should contain some preliminary information on the Local Organizing Committee, the Universities and/or Laboratories involved, the location of the conference, the foreseen costs, the expected financial contributions from sources other than conference fees.
The EoIs should be sent to the Chair of the EPS-HEPP Board (yves.sirois@in2p3.fr) by the 30th of June 2016. The EPS-HEPP Board will form a short list of two or three candidate sites and will invite their representatives to present their formal bids at an EPS-HEPP Board meeting which will be held at CERN in October 2016.
The selection of the site for 2019 should normally be decided at the same meeting.

Dear all,
The International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015 (IYL 2015) will be brought to an official close with a ceremony to be held over three days from 4-6 February 2016 in the city of Mérida, Mexico. As a parallel event of the programme, we are glad to announce the organization of the IYL 2015 Film Festival to showcase videos/documentaries developed to celebrate the IYL 2015. A call for entries is open to select films for the festival. We would appreciate if you can disseminate this information as wide as possible using your own dissemination channels in your countries.
The art of cinema can show us the true nature of life but it is just an illusion. An illusion, at 24 frames per second, which fools our eyes into sensing motion when light is projected onto a big screen. Over the year, many people worldwide have decided to celebrate light and the IYL 2015’s themes and goals by creating several videos documenting IYL 2015 anniversaries, physics phenomena related to light or just IYL 2015 activities. With this festival we would like to get a glimpse of what have been produced around the world and pay homage to the creators of the videos.
Information about Submission Process
Criteria:
1) Any form: Films of any length. (Shorts and Features)
2) Films that were produced to celebrate the IYL 2015 or that fit the IYL 2015 themes and goals
3) Films that are in English/Spanish or suitably subtitled in English (films originally produced in any languages are welcome).
4) Entries for selection are required to be sent in digital (upload) format.
How to submit a film:
Please fill in the following form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1INvUSmfTsy9nSuGpQhhLHgCt527puBoaxz_vqLVK2bw/viewform).
Deadline for submission: Tuesday 15 December 2015 at 23:59:59 CET.

Dear colleague,
Within the framework of the UNESCO activities for 2015 – The International Year of Light, you are cordially invited to attend and submit memories to the:
International Scientific and Theological Conference
FIAT-LUX (LET THERE BE LIGHT), Roma (Italy), June 3-5 2015.
In the common language light means knowledge: “I had a lightning”! In nature, light has a larger dimension, regrouping together three main functionalities: light means energy, light means information, light means also time rhythm. All of them are somehow different expressions of “knowledge”: in fact, getting information and communicate means to know the surrounding, acquire energy from such knowledge and start associated actions. Physics and metaphysics have always analysed the surrounding nature from points of view which might be different but never opposite. FIAT LUX wants to be the place where scientists, philosophers and theologians will get together to discuss on the LIGHT, trying to find similar languages and common understanding.
Deadline for abstract submission is 15 March 2015.
