Bids for EPS-HEP 2017

Posted By Administration, Sunday 4 May 2014
Updated: Monday 5 May 2014
The HEPP Board of the European Physical Society is soliciting Expressions of Interest (EoI) from potential hosts of the EPS-HEP conference in 2017. These EoIs should contain some preliminary information on the Local Organizing Committee, the Universities and/or Laboratories involved, the location of the conference, the foreseen costs, the expected financial contributions from sources other than conference fees.

The EoIs should be sent to the Chair of the EPS-HEPP Board (lohse [at] physik.hu-berlin.de), by 30 June 2014. The EPS-HEPP Board will form a short list consisting of two or three candidate sites and will invite their representatives to present their formal bids at an EPS-HEPP Board Meeting, which will be held at CERN in October 2014. The selection of the site for 2017 will most likely be decided at the same meeting.

Joint EPS-SIF International School on Energy 2014: deadine for appplications 30 April 2014

Posted By Administration, Thursday 24 April 2014
Updated: Thursday 24 April 2014

The second course of the Joint EPS-SIF International School on Energy will take place in Varenna (lake Como, Italy) from 16 to 23 July 2014.

The primary goal of the School will be to present all physics fields with relevance for the technologies of energy production, conversion, transmission and savings. Their potential will be presented but also the need for more research and development to fully unfold it will be indicated. For this purpose, basic lectures and topical seminars will be presented by specialists in their field.

The School will cover major fields in detailed lectures but it will also serve as a forum of discussions. It brings together scientists working in various energy related areas.
The following fields will be covered by lectures or seminars: solar photovoltaic and photothermal sources, hydro, wind, biomass, fossils, fission, fusion, energy saving technology, climate issues along with other topics where physics plays a role.

The lectures will also identify cases where more research is necessary. In order to ensure a lively and up-to-date School, there will be plenary sessions going over several days and topical seminars. In case your are interested in energy technology or even working in this field, we would encourage you to sign up.

The deadline for application is set to 30 April 2014.

Visit the SIF website for more info about the School.

CMD25 - JMC14: third call for contributions to "Condensed Matter in Paris"

Posted By Administration, Monday 14 April 2014

Dear colleagues,

With the mark of 400 contributions from all over Europe, in all of the 38 topical sessions, passed,

Condensed Matter in Paris CMD 25 – JMC 14

is picking up momentum fast. Your peers have already registered, but you too can still be part of

this large condensed matter physics meeting, that unites CMD 25, the Condensed Matter confe-

rence of the European Physical Society EPS, and JMC 14, the 14th “Journées de la Matière

Condensée” of the French Physical Society SFP.

From August 24th to 29th, Condensed Matter in Paris CMD 25 – JMC 14 is expecting to host more

than 1000 European Condensed Matter physicists in sunny Paris, and is therefore the place to be.

Submission of abstracts to Condensed Matter in Paris is possible until April 15th, 2014.

The program of Condensed Matter in Paris will comprise 6 plenary and 15 semi-plenary invited

Talks, round table discussions on physics start-ups, the future of physics publishing, and women

in physics, and, of course, the 38 Mini-colloquia (Topical Sessions).

You may submit your most recent work to the Mini-colloquium of choice on the conference website,

  http://cmd25jmc14.sciencesconf.org/

Registration rates have been kept very modest so that all who wish to attend can do so. Moreover,

extremely advantageous rates are available for (graduate) students and young researchers.

     Please circulate this information

On behalf of the Program Committee and the Local Organizing Committee, the SFP and the EPS,

I am looking forward to welcoming you in Paris this summer

      Yours sincerely,

      Kees van der Beek

Chair, Condensed Matter in Paris CMD25 – JMC14

The official language of Condensed Matter in Paris CMD25 – JMC14 will be English.
